James Dean Fans Night at the Indiana State Museum will take place on Friday May 17^th.

The “Eternal James Dean” Exhibit will be open that evening to Dean Fans from 6 - 8pm. Admission is $4.50 reduced from the usual $9.50

The Exhibit is also open daily from 10am to 5pm through June 2^nd and includes an outstanding display of several dozen Rare items of James Dean memorabilia.

The Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis is working closely with the James Dean Estate, The Fairmount Historical Museum, and The James Dean Gallery to bring “Eternal James Dean” to life. The exhibition will have four main sections that will chronicle his life from Indiana to California, New York, and eventual success as a Hollywood movie idol. Large-scale black and white photographs will help create a stylized mood to contrast with the slice-of-life objects from Dean’s life, telling the story of James Dean the man, his image and its origins.

The extensive exhibit will run from November 23, 2012 through June 2, 2013.

The James Dean Gallery has come home to the Old Victorian House on Main Street in Fairmount, Indiana where it originally opened in 1988.

The museum exhibit and gift shop was located in the house on Main Street for fifteen years before relocating to an all new building in Gas City off of Interstate 69 in 2004. Due to the high cost of maintenance and operating expenses the state-of-the-art facility closed after just two years.

The James Dean exhibit then moved to the Kruse Museum Complex in Auburn, Indiana where it was on display for the past 2 years, and has now returned to the original location in Fairmount.

“We’ve gone full circle” says owner and James Dean archivist David Loehr. “Twenty years later it’s like a new beginning, a fresh start”.

In an attempt to encourage visitors to visit Fairmount and The Gallery, there is no longer an admission charge for the exhibit. According to Loehr “With the economy, gas prices and rising cost of just about everything else we decided to make the attraction free with the hope that visitors will buy a post card, t-shirt or other souvenir item from the gift shop to help with the operating costs “.

Besides The James Dean Gallery there are other attractions in Dean’s hometown including the gravesite, Historical Museum and other locations making it an interesting and inexpensive one day trip for the family.

Fairmount is located just five miles west on SR26 off exit #55 of Interstate 69 between Fort Wayne and Indianapolis.
